I was cleaning my studio the other day and came across this pretty Labradorite cabochon. I rarely used larger gemstones in my previous work and this stone bought 12 or 13 years ago (as an art college student!) was kept safely hidden away, like long lost treasure, waiting for the right moment to catch my attention once again.
As I examined the gem this time I knew exactly what I wanted to make..... I imagined a mountain lake on a calm summer day. No breeze and the water barely lapping at the smooth pebbles at my feet. The world around me so still and peaceful and so alive.
It is precious moments like these, real or imagined, that my soul craves. Moments of stillness when I put all the busyness of the day aside and take a moment to breathe. Moments of quiet to pray, reflect and listen. And the most beautiful part of it all is that God is already there waiting for me to join him.
I’ve titled this piece “still waters” inspired by one of the most famous of bible verses, Psalm 23. I hope to create more pieces in silver like this, inspired by my faith and love for Jesus.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psalm 23:1-3
