How it's made matters

Using traditional metalsmithing techniques,  artist and jeweller Melissa Pedersen shapes and creates each pendant, ring or set of earrings by hand in her studio located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. The process is slow, intentional and beautiful.  The artist's hand and heart can be seen in each step along the way, from the initial sketch to each stroke of the hammer and saw blade through to final polish.

Melissa creates in recycled silver whenever possible using both Argentium and Silver Metal Clay.

"I’ve always been drawn to the changing of seasons, especially from winter to spring. The transformation of death to life is what captivates me. Signs of spring appear in my work: I use sprouts, seeds, rain drops and budding flowers as intentional symbols of hope, life, growth and perseverance.

As an artist I love how the process of creating jewellery reflects this beautiful transformation. The old is made new as the raw materials are worked and the rough is refined, until something beautiful emerges." - Melissa

Whatever is Lovely

Whatever is true,

whatever is honorable,

whatever is just,

whatever is pure,

whatever is lovely,

whatever is commendable,

if there is any excellence,

if there is anything worthy of praise,

think about these things.
